Meet Ash
Hi, I’m Ash… the person behind Access with Ash 👋🏼
I created this platform out of real-life need.
As someone living with Friedreich’s Ataxia, accessibility isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s what determines whether I can actually enjoy a space or not.
And like a lot of people, I got tired of guessing.
Why Access with Ash exists
Have you ever tried to plan a catch-up, dinner, or day out…
and realised there’s little to no information about accessibility?
Is there a step at the entrance?
Can you actually move through the space?
Where’s the accessible toilet, and does it even work?
Is there parking nearby?
These are the details that matter, and they’re often missing.
So I started sharing what access is really like.
What I do
I visit cafes, restaurants, bars, hotels, and events across Melbourne and review them from an accessibility perspective - in real life.
Every review is based on my personal experience navigating the space using mobility aids, and focuses on:
Entry (step-free, ramps, doors)
Layout & space to move
Accessible toilets (location + usability)
Seating options
Nearby accessible parking
No assumptions. No guesswork. Just honest, practical detail.
Where this is going
This is more than a blog. It’s a growing access guide for Melbourne.
I work with venues to showcase what’s working (and what’s not), so more people can get out and enjoy the city… without the guesswork.
A little more about me
I’m Melbourne-based (and a big believer it’s one of the best cities in the world), a proud advocate in the disability community, and a Melbourne Awards finalist for access and inclusion.
When I’m not reviewing venues, I’m usually following the footy (go the Bulldogs), watching the tennis, or out with a good almond latte in hand.
Let’s make going out easier
If you’re looking for accessible places to try, you’re in the right place.
And if you’re a venue with great access (or want to improve it), I’d love to hear from you.
