Australian Open 2025
Accessibility at the AO is next level!
Is this the most inclusive sporting event in the world?
This year, the Australian Open has absolutely smashed it with their accessibility features! From the moment you arrive, it’s clear they’ve considered absolutely everything.
Accessible lines at all three entrances—Grand Slam Oval (Olympic Blvd), City entrance, or Garden Square entrance (perfect if you’re coming via tram)—make getting in a breeze. Grab a map when you enter to familiarize yourself with the layout—or better yet, check it out online before you go here.
There are three sensory spaces (make sure to visit the new one at Margaret Court, I’ve been told it’s incredible!), four Changing Places for bathroom access, and even accessible change rooms in the AO shop. Because, let’s face it, everyone deserves a little tennis merch shopping spree! Plus, the selfie stations are now accessible via ramps, making those epic AO photos easier than ever.
And my personal highlight? In-seat ordering via QR codes in the accessible seating at Rod Laver for food and drinks. So convenient and such a game changer for accessibility.
If you need a bit of help, Travellers Aid is on hand to help you navigate the precinct like a pro—whether you’re heading to Kia Arena, Rod Laver, or the tram stop at the end of your visit. They offer transfer support within the event venue (wheelchair or personal guidance) and buggy assistance (to transfer you to Garden Square entrance). If you need to reach them call 0498 023 959 to speak to the Travellers Aid on-site coordinator. Alternatively, you can go to the Information Booth at Garden Square Entrance between 10:00am and midnight.
Looking for a spot to sit, grab some food, and soak up the atmosphere? Grand Slam Oval has standard-height seating and chairs, as do Garden Square and the back of Court 3. Perfect for a break while enjoying the buzz of the AO!
Through BindiMaps, the AO offers accessible wayfinding for people who are blind, have low vision, or use a wheelchair. And this year, live captions on screens around the grounds make the event even more inclusive for deaf and hard of hearing attendees.
Massive shoutout to Tennis Australia and the Australian Open for making this the most inclusive sporting event in the world. Catch you at the tennis! 🎾✨
