Corner Hotel. Richmond
Iconic Richmond pub and live music venue Corner Hotel has been around for as long as I can remember, the 1940’s in fact! I haven’t been to a music gig there post disability so I was keen to check out the access.
The entrance has 3 steps at the front on Swan Street, however there’s step free accessible entrance via the side door on Botherambo Street.
Let’s chat band room first. Located on the ground floor (accessible via the side door). I first noticed how well signed it is. The room itself is spacious, all flat apart from the viewing steps at the back and has easy access to gender neutral and accessible toilets to the right of stage. I’ve been told this toilet is brand new and it is a dream having everything right there on the same level.
You know I love a good rooftop pub; this one is another winner. Accessible via the lift in the band room, it’s really well signed again which makes getting around a breeze. The space up here is huge; there’s indoor and outdoor seating options with high tables + stools and standard table + chairs with backrests. There’s bound to be a spot that works for you pre, post or even during a gig for a bite to eat. They have an accessible toilet on this level too - note the ramp to the toilets is down a slight decline.
Richmond is tricky at the best of times for parking. There’s 2 accessible spots a few blocks away on Clifton Street and another on Green Street next to Coles. These 3 spots aren’t time limited. There is 1 accessible spot a bit closer on Lennox Street but it has a 1hr time limit.
It’s clear that accessibility is a priority to the Corner Hotel from signage throughout the venue to information on their website.
