Shadowfax Winery. Werribee
Just 30 mins out of Melbourne, you’ll find boutique winery situated in Werribee Park, Shadowfax. It’s a hidden gem and you need to add it to your list if you haven’t been.
My pick at Shadowfax is the big shaded outdoor area. There’s large wooden tables with bench seating under the sails, or smaller standard tables + chairs with backrests on the alfresco area. There’s a large grass area that’s perfect for picnics or for kids to run around. The restaurant inside is really roomy. Sturdy wooden tables are all standard height and the chairs have backrests. There’s lots of space in between tables and plenty of room for aids or prams.
The path that leads you in from the carpark is a fine loose gravel that presents no issues for wheels but may be slightly unsteady under foot. The entrance into the restaurant is via double automatic doors. No steps in sight here, it’s all flat!
The accessible toilets share the space with a baby change table. The position and size of the change table compromises the access of the toilet.
There’s parking directly out the front in a dedicated gravel carpark. Only one accessible spot but there’s room to drop off. It does get busy on weekends.
To make sure you get a spot outside, I’d recommend booking a table in advance. If you love a winery lunch like me, you’ll love the laidback vibe here!
