Cam’s Kiosk. Abbotsford
Not your regular cafe, Cam’s Kiosk is a wonderful mix of cafe, bar and restaurant at the Abbotsford Convent! Mark this one down as a must visit Melbourne spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
You’ll find Cam’s sitting in a wing of the historic Abbotsford Convent site. Inside dining is easily accessed via the large, wide ramp on the convent building side. The outdoor terrace overlooking the grass area is accessed via a small ramp in the courtyard. The outdoor terrace can also be accessed through the cafe.
Inside has a mix of standard tables + chairs, some of the tables have long bench seats that are fixed in place or there’s high stools at the bar. There’s not a lot of room to navigate between tables but it’s certainly manageable and staff are helpful. I chose to sit at a table on the edge of the room which left more table space around me. The outdoor terrace gets busy on the weekends, especially on nice sunny days. I’d recommend booking a table if you want to sit here as there isn’t much space to move through tables. Just pop wheelchair access required when booking so staff can allocate an appropriate table.
I squealed a bit when I saw the toilets. Automatic doors! The first I’ve come across in my reviews so far. A push to open door means independent and easy access for those that need it. Huge inside as well. The toilets are well signed, down a hallway in the Convent building next to Cam’s.
There’s 2 accessible parking spots on St Heliers Street and another 6 dedicated spots in the paid carpark also on St Heliers Street.
Lots of very helpful access information on the Convent website here
I’m definitely returning to visit the Convent Bakery and new spot Julies Restaurant in the sunny months ahead!
