Iconic Melbourne restaurant Chin Chin is accessible!
On first glance the step at the front might turn you off, but you’ll be glad to know they have a portable ramp to get you inside if you require assistance; just ask the staff. The ramp is sturdy and there’s no tricky bumps to get over.
I’d recommend making a booking as Chin Chin is super busy and although they take walk-ins, I always like to put wheelchair accessible in the notes so they can accommodate you on an easily accessible table. There isn’t much room between tables so you’ll be allocated one that has enough space. We did feel rushed to get seated. There’s always a lot of people around, so if that and the lack of space is a concern I’d recommend going in off peak times like a late lunch or early dinner.
The toilet is down the back of the restaurant opposite the kitchen. There’s enough room inside, it’s quite basic and there’s no back support on the actual toilet.
Parking in the city can be tricky but ACDC carpark is right next door (entry via Flinders St). There’s roughly 6 accessible spots on level 5 which means you come out on street level at Flinders Lane. The carpark has a lift.
The food and vibe at Chin Chin makes it worth the visit if you can make it work for your access needs!.
