If you’re craving classic Italian in the heart of the city, @pepesitalianliquor delivers with a vibrant atmosphere and delicious pizza + pasta in a gorgeous old brick building on Exhibition Street.
Pepe’s features a wide, step free entrance on Exhibition Street leading into its beautiful alfresco courtyard. The main restaurant doors are also step free, providing smooth entry for indoor dining.
The venue has two distinct areas: the alfresco courtyard - a dreamy little space perfect for sunny days. This area has a mix of low lounge seating and high tables - the lounge seating is quite low, making it tricky for eating meals. Finding the right spot outside can take some maneuvering. Step inside, and you’re transported to a 20th-century restaurant with a modern twist. The dining room offers a more traditional setup, with standard tables and chairs. The long bar runs the length of the space with bar stools. While tables are arranged closely, I was able to navigate to my seat. I’d recommend noting any wheelchair access needs when booking to ensure a suitable table.
The accessible toilet is located at the back of the venue. Internal access requires going down one step, so for a step free route, you’ll need to go outside and enter via a narrow courtyard entrance. The toilet itself is functional, though it lacks a backrest. Given the historic nature of the building, this solution works but could be improved. There’s also an easy exit onto Little Lonsdale Street, so you don’t have to return through the courtyard to leave via Exhibition Street - a handy tip!
For parking, there’s one accessible spot directly out front on Exhibition Street and one on Little Lonsdale Street toward Spring Street. There’s another two spots around the corner on Lonsdale Street.
Pepe’s Italian is a great option for a relaxed meal with an authentic feel, especially if you love alfresco dining. Heading into the cooler months, the cosy indoor space makes for a perfect spot to settle in. Just make sure to try the vodka pasta! 🍝
