Japanese Grill Restaurant

Tuesday - Saturday: 12pm-11pm

Follow the neon lights to Robata, a Japanese grill right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD! If you love Japanese food and you’re looking for an accessible restaurant, pop this one on your list to visit.

Situated on the corner of Flinders and Exhibition Streets, this modern restaurant welcomes you with an automatic door and a flat, seamless entry on Exhibition Street - always a good start!

Once inside, you’re greeted by a vibrant atmosphere, with neon signs and hanging light boxes. Robata seats 100, and while the bar has high stools fixed in place, most of the restaurant features standard height tables with chairs that have backrests, as well as a few cozy booths. There’s also window seating for two overlooking Flinders Street. Be mindful that some of the booth seating is a step above the main floor, which isn’t accessible. The layout is a little tight in places, but there are several tables along the perimeter with extra room. When booking, it’s definitely worth mentioning if you need wheelchair friendly seating.

Robata’s accessible toilet is located near the entrance, down a hallway. It’s equipped with grab rails, though there’s no backrest. A baby change table is also available for those who need it.

Parking wise, the nearest carpark is the ACDC carpark on Flinders Street, with accessible spots on levels 5 and 10. If you’re after street parking, there are two accessible spaces one block away on Collins Street near the Sofitel.

If Japanese cuisine is calling your name, Robata’s lunch sandos and bento boxes are a must try. And don’t forget to stay for the sake—it’s the perfect way to round off your visit.
