Spoilt for choice in the Yarra Valley; there’s so many great wineries and places to visit! I chose 3 great spots I hadn’t been to before that were all very accessible - Coombe Yarra Valley, Yarra Valley Dairy and Soumah Winery.
You won’t miss the big green hedges at Coombe Yarra Valley. Coombe has a cellar door, cafe and restaurant that are all accessible. The pathways outside are all nice and wide which makes it easy to get around. The cafe is past the cellar door outside to a gorgeous courtyard. Seating options on the grass with umbrellas or the bricked pergola where I sat and had some scones and sparkling. The cellar door loops all the way around to the restaurant where you’ll find the accessible toilet along the way. The space is great, it’s all completely flat and very roomy so it was easy to navigate.
Yarra Valley Dairy is a cheese shop in the original 100 year old milking shed! Here you’ll find cheese tasting, a little general store with local produce and a cafe area - perfect if you want a cheese platter. It was a quick stop here for me to do the cheese tasting which is all made on site and a tasting is only $5. The shed is not huge but I I had enough space to move around; it’s all step free here too so no trouble getting around. The accessible toilet is down the corridor on the way out.
Last stop was a gem I hadn’t heard of before and it didn’t disappoint, Soumah Winery. A big ramp winds down to the entrance (as there’s stairs at the front). Once inside it’s all flat. They have a restaurant and cellar door here as well as a bar outside to enjoy a drink overlooking the vineyards. The accessible toilet is back out the front main doors.
All 3 places have their own dedicated carpark with accessible parking spots, however they were all on loose gravel which is really tricky under foot for me. Yarra Valley Dairy only had 1 accessible spot, Coombe the most and Soumah was the easiest - right near the entrance so not much gravel to deal with.
A really enjoyable experience I hope you can visit with confidence knowing more about the access.
